INRAN (Istituto Nazionale di Ricerca per gli Alimenti e la Nutrizione) is a single government-funded research organization, which carries out basic and applied research in the various areas of study in food science and human nutrition.

INRAN has a scientific and technical research staff of 100 employees with competence in food chemistry, food technology, human nutrition, nation-wide dietary surveys, nutritional database design, sensory analysis and consumer food choice.

One of the important tasks of INRAN is to advise the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry on matters of human nutrition and consumer policy. The group has a wide experience in carrying out consumer studies aimed at assessing factors influencing food choice and dietary surveys.
