The association Organic Denmark was set up in March 2002 when seven organic associations were merged. The members of the association comprise farmers, manufacturers, organisations and consumers.

The association is organised as a main body with a number of trade-specific committees all of which are serviced by kologiens Hus in Aarhus, which houses four departments and two news magazines, kologisk Jordbrug a trade and farming bi-weekly, and Spir, a consumer magazine on organic foods.

The objectives of kologiens Hus are

  • To offer technical and advisory services to farmer members, as well as to launch and supervise grass-root research projects.
  • To act as secretariat to the association and to lobby all relevant governmental and organisational bodies.
  • To make information on organics available to the public and the press through websites, press releases, fact sheets, market research, etc.
  • To promote organic food products in all distribution channels, i.e. the retail trade, the catering sector and through the alternative distribution channels such as farm outlets and delivery services.

Organic Denmarks marketing department also undertakes a number of tasks for the promotion of Danish organics abroad. Organic Denmark is responsible for the Danish presence at trade shows and fairs, a showcase website for organic exporters, monitoring of Denmark's most important export markets and the collecting and dissemination of information to interested parties.

Role in project:
• Contribution to project meetings and help with dissemination via brochure.
• Organic Denmark is subcontracted to MAPP, Denmark
